FOCUSED PRACTICAL TASKS

(Making without designing)

FPT are pre-designed builds from given plans. These allow students to practice following sequential instructions whilst honing practical skills. This can mirror the Master-Apprentice method of learning but can be adapted to allow for increasing amounts of independence, problem solving and creativity: the level and quality of assembly instructions and demonstrations may be varied depending on level of differentiation required for the student(s).

The FPT stages of differentiation:

1) Give plans and parts and demonstrate assembly.

2) Give plans, parts and instructions.

3) Give plans and demonstrate how to make parts from materials in stock form.

4) Give plans and raw material.

5) Give plans only.

(6) Give a finished product to disassemble and replicate

(7) Give a picture of a finished product.
