When you develop and create design solutions it is vitally important that your product is designed to be fully maintainable, by the user or a specialist)
This should seem obvious to everyone, but... if a product is designed so that it can be easiliy disassembled, have parts that are easy to swap in and out, and be able to be done by anyone with relatively straightforward tools and skill then....
The product becomes more sustainable- you don't have to throw the whole thing away, less waste goes into landfill as the parts can be properly recycled. This cuts down pollution at every point in the product's life cycle, limits energy use and transport, reduces unrecyclable waste, and generally contributes to the creation of a more circular economy and sustainable products and practices.
Q: If this is so obvious then why do some global companies still make products that cannot be repaired or recycled?
