To successfully identify, analyse and evaluate a user’s needs and wants you must investigate and thoroughly understand every detail of every aspect of the situation you are designing within, and also how the user works within the environment.
This demands >PRIMARY research and you will need to meet people to properly analyse a design situation.
Photograph or video the user engaged in the activities that you are analysing, in the place where the solution is needed. Discuss positive and negative aspects with them. Question them on every aspect of what they need and want in a design solution and identify their particular, personal circumstances and preferences.
