Economy of visual form
Scale of 50mm for inner circle: lines at 2mm and 4mm width, minimumum space between lines = 1.5x width. Avoid filled areas (old rules) or use filled profiles (new advice). Use grid but don't force a fit if the message is obscured. Symmetrical symbols preferred. Directional information should allow for reversal. Ratio of height and width no more than 4:1 (nothing tall and thin/long and narrow). Line width of significant detail should be easily readable at a distance. Present within a square border. Standardised safety signage colours to be applied.
